Types Of Wood Frames That You Can Choose From For Your House

A frame of your house is just like a skeleton without which your body will just be a blob of flesh

and it won’t work as it does now, right? The wood frame does the same.

People use Framing Contractors in Surrey, and in many other cities of Canada to build the frame

of their house.

The frame also comes with benefits. It is strong, inexpensive, and readily available. The houses that are wood framed fall in one of the three categories depending on the age they are of. These techniques have their pros and cons. And if you have knowledge about the construction work you can usually figure out the technique that your house was built using.

Balloon Frame:

This process was started in the 1800s when people were tired of waiting and wanted their houses built faster and inexpensively. And at that time a balloon frame was introduced that used dimensional lumber with manufactured nails.

The lumber is fastened with nails and is formed in the frame of a house. The main feature of this technique is that the lumber panels run from the foundation to the top of the second story. So the balloon-framed houses use very long pieces of lumber.

Platform Frame:

In the 1930s, when the risks from the balloon frames got more, the architects came up with another frame called a platform frame. This framing is quite similar to balloon framing except for some differences.

In platform frames, every story is built individually, which means that small pieces of lumber are used. In addition, platform frames can also be built without the use of scaffolding and it can be a lot faster to build the house.

Timber Frame:

Timber frame is the oldest used technique for houses. And did you know that the oldest timber-framed house still exists in Japan, and it was built in 690 AD?  These types of structures can last for years due to their stability and strength.

And you know what’s impressive about them? They hold the structure for many years without nails! That’s amazing, right? Instead of nails, they use tenon joinery and complex mortise to join their beams and posts together. They were mostly used in America until they were suppressed by the balloon frames in the 1800s. This frame is also self-sufficient as compared to other frames.

These are some of the wood frames that are being or have been used in Canadian houses for a long time. Ready to get yours? Contact a wood framing contractor in West Vancouver now!
